Fancy spending a day indulging in a bit of shopping followed by lunch, more shopping, coffee and rounded off with an evening at the theatre? If that sounds like your idea of the perfect day, then hip Islington is the place for you. Located in N1, this district north of the Thames is a treasure trove of independent boutiques, cafes, restaurants, bars and theatres centred around Upper Street.
Early birds can start the day at The Breakfast Club, tucked away in the cobbled streets of Camden Passage. But be warned, this tiny place is so popular you may need to queue (we'd therefore suggest Cocorosing It for this!). If you can't make it for breakfast though, there's always the brunch, lunch or dinner menus to whet your appetite.
After breakfast you can easily fill the morning exploring Camden Passage which is bursting with independent shops and market stalls selling modern and vintage clothing and jewellery, antiques, collectables and Japanese art.
For lunch, Islington institution Ottolenghi's on Upper Street is unmissable. Specialising in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern food, the counters are overflowing with colourful, mouth watering and wholesome dishes artfully arranged and begging to be sampled.

If you have young kids, a trip to Freightliners City Farm on Sheringham Road may be an unexpected surprise. This little gem of a farm has a wide variety of animals, a very popular farm shop stocking fruit, veg and honey (all produced on the farm) and a cafe.
When your energy levels start to flag mid afternoon, head to The Coffeeworks Project or Kipferl for artisan coffees and scrumptious sweet treats.
And for the evening? Catch a stage production at one of the many theatres Islington has to offer - from the larger, well known venues of Sadlers Wells and the Almeida Theatre to smaller venues such as the Little Angel Theatre, the Old Red Lion and Hen and Chickens Theatre. From dance to puppet shows to comedy, you're spoiled for choice.
End your day in N1 with post-theatre drinks or dinner. 69 Colebrook Row is renowned for its cocktails. For dinner, Islington boasts cuisine from across the globe - Almeida (French), Rodizio Rico (Brazilian), Vintage Salt (posh fish and chips), Vivo (Italian) and Wahaca (Mexican) to name a few.
