Hold on tight, because we're about to unveil a game-changer in the world of fashion! Get ready to step into the future with our upcoming plant-powered, cactus leather women’s trainers. If you've been following our journey over the past few months, you'll know that we've been sharing every exciting moment of our cactus leather exploration in our past blogs.
But if you're just joining us now, let us fill you in – we've been secretly crafting this revolutionary project with the incredible support of Innovate UK, and the anticipation is building as we prepare to share this ground-breaking moment with all of you! 👟✨
Picture this: You're striding confidently through the city streets in a pair of Cocorose's cactus leather trainers. A fusion of style, comfort, and sustainability – these shoes are about to become your new obsession.
Our initial capsule collection is a sight to behold. Five stunning models, each crafted in Portugal with off-white cactus leather, boasting a touch of Bordeaux, Blue Marine, Mostaza, or Beige on the heel tab. And for those who love the classic, we've got an all-black version that's as sleek as it gets. Lift the tongues and underneath, you'll find the matching heel colour printed with our Plant Powered logo.
Scroll down to the last picture and you'll see our soles, which have a wonderfully speckled appearance because the rubber is incorporated with approximately 30% recycled cork stoppers. Portugal is known for making cork stoppers, so it makes total sense to go full circle and bulk out the rubber with cork as well. Remember, re-purpose, re-use and recycle wherever possible. Cork is a natural material and has excellent shock absorbing properties, which makes it perfect for mixing into the soles of our trainers to keep you bouncing along in comfort all day long.
And oh, did we mention the dusky pink lining? It's the Cocorose twist that you didn't know you needed!
So why cactus leather, you ask? Surly it should be prickly, dry and brittle? Here's the thing. Made using Desserto cactus leather, the texture is soft, smooth and flexible - probably one of the best alternatives to leather that I've ever come across. Made from organic Nopal cactus, otherwise known as the prickly pear, this highly sustainable and environmentally friendly cactus leather is also durable and incredibly high performance. It's a fully vegan leather and recyclable too.
This is not just a pair of shoes; this is a movement. A movement to tread lightly, to make mindful choices, and to be downright fabulous whilst doing so.
From an environmentally friendly perspective, cactus leather is a superhero for the environment. Cacti are natural carbon sinks, helping combat climate change. Just imagine, cacti plants across a mere 14 acres absorb a whopping 8,100 tons of carbon annually. And that's not all – they regenerate soil naturally, require minimal irrigation, and thrive in drought conditions, preserving precious water supplies. It's like wearing Mother Nature on your feet.
We know you've been eagerly waiting to get your hands (or should we say, feet) on these beauties. Our cactus leather trainers are set to make their grand entrance at the end of November / beginning of December, just in time for Christmas.
As a family-run small business, we are happy to know that we are making a significant impact. We did it once by introducing our innovative foldable shoes, and now we're doing it again by leading the charge in sustainable fashion. It's a journey of passion, innovation, and making a difference – no matter the size of the business.
So, mark your calendars, Cocorosers! The next few weeks are going to be epic. Get ready to Cocorose it in a pair of our cactus leather trainers - a great gift idea that not only looks good and feels super comfortable, but is also doing good for the planet.
Thank you, as always, for being a part of our journey. We can't wait to stride into the future with you.
Loads of love, Janan & Team Cocorose xx 🌵✨
