How to Dress for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee

How To Dress for The Queen's Platinum Jubilee

It is HM The Queen's Platinum Jubilee, marking her 70th year as our monarch in the UK. To celebrate this monumental event, the country has a 4-day bank holiday weekend, giving communities, friends and families the chance to gather and show appreciation for The Queen who has been the one constant through many years of both peace and turmoil in the country.

It will be one of the biggest celebrations in British history, especially when this particular celebration makes The Queen the first British monarch to celebrate 70 years of service.

With all the pomp and ceremony, garden and street parties and places to visit that will commemorate The Queen's Platinum Jubilee, it's essential to know how to dress for this very royal milestone.

To help you through the occasion, we have compiled a list of style guides on how to look the part at these events.

Be casual yet festive for the streets.
On the 2nd of June, The Trooping of the Colour, which marks The Queen's official birthday, will take place at Horse Guard's Parade in Whitehall. The Queen and Members of the Royal Family traditionally travel on horseback and in carriages from Buckingham Palace down The Mall to Horse Guard's Parade, where the ceremony and fanfare take place, before heading back to the balcony of Buckingham Palace to watch the RAF fly-past.

It is here where excited, flag-waving crowds hit the streets of London, particularly around Buckingham Palace and down The Mall, hoping to catch a glimpse of the Royal Family and ultimately, to soak up the celebratory atmosphere.

It is free for everybody to see, although paid tickets are required for Horse Guard's Parade. If you're happy to celebrate on the streets, we would suggest wearing comfortable and stylish streetwear however, should you be lucky enough to be attending the event, you are encouraged to look smart (and that means no denim, shorts or sandals for ladies!). It is a formal military parade, after-all!

For streetwear, we would still suggest ensuring your dress code is smart, stylish and, very importantly, comfy. Jeans would be perfectly acceptable, preferably cuffed and paired with an uplifting graphic or fun tee, or why not opt for a neutral midi sundress paired with a denim jacket? Complete your look with a crossbody camera bag to store your essentials, stylish straw hat and some statement shades. Let your shoes do the talking and opt for the limited edition, Jubilee designed Hoxton white leather trainers with metallic blue and red stripes for an added patriotic punch 🇬🇧

Be chic and elegant in memorabilia.
As part of celebrating the life of The Queen and her 70-year service to the throne, Sandringham Estate and Balmoral Castle are currently presenting special exhibitions showcasing The Queen and the Royal Family's life and time spent at their beloved country retreats.

If not yet sold out, you can also pre-book the Platinum Jubilee Afternoon Tea and picnic Platinum Tea in the Sandringham Estate and the Platinum Jubilee Afternoon Tea at Balmoral Castle.

The Platinum Party at the Palace (June 4) will be open to people through a public ballot and tickets for key workers.

To commemorate at any of these events, we would suggest wearing chic and elegant outfits to match the regal feel of the occasion.

Beautiful, flowing separates in textured materials such as silk and linen, preferably in neutral colours such as navy, grey and white, would pair well with pretty ballerinas like our Sandringham ballet flats in pewter or our Clapham loafers in white. Accessorise with delicate, gold jewellery and pull your look together with a smart jacket and clutch bag.

Be creative and playful in the park.
With a place like Burnby Hall Gardens in Yorkshire commemorating the celebration with a
Jubilee Teddy Bear's Picnic (June 3), it's ideal for celebrating the Platinum Jubilee on a beautiful site with your family. Match your outfit to the playful mood of the event and opt for as fun and bright as possible. We would suggest coordinating a bright maxi dress and fun sweatshirt with a pair of our Hoxton White with White Star trainers for maximum comfort. Top off with a hat to protect yourself from the sun and don't forget your backpack which will no doubt be filled with snacks for all the family.

Be bold and unique for the carnival.
The Big Jubilee Lunch in the Long Walk (Windsor, Berkshire) and The Big Platinum Festival in
Mayflower Park, Southampton, which commence on the 5th of June, will be a wonderful opportunity to picnic together with friends, family and even those you don't yet know. Although tickets for the Long Table in Windsor has sold out, there is still plenty of space available for you to bring your own tables, chairs and picnic rugs to join in and enjoy the Big Lunch!

We definitely recommend an easy-going and super comfy outfit for the day, and preferably one where you can enjoy an extra slice of Victoria Sponge cake or even pork pie! Think along the lines of athleisure, so leggings and tracksuit bottoms with elasticated waistlines. You can get smart looking elasticated joggers and sweatshirts in pretty pastels and cool neutrals like camel, navy and khaki, so there's no excuse not to still look well put together! Pair with any of our fun and comfy trainers, although we would definitely highlight those that are red, white and blue, to fit in with this very Royal occasion.

Be comfortable and stylish.
Dressing in style is a way of commemorating the many years of service The Queen has given to
the country and the world. By combining style and comfort, you'll ooze confidence, sophistication and have loads more fun too!

So, whatever your plans are for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, make sure you step out in
style and comfort. And don't forget to take plenty of pictures to capture all the beautiful
memories!
