Spotlight On...Adornments
This time the spotlight is on Adornments! We took some time out to talk with Ayla about her boutique and here's what she said...
When did you open Adornments boutique and why did you open it? Adornments opened for business in November 2007, which I think was about the same time as Cocorose, so we started our journey together. Prior to this I used to find it difficult locally to find unusual items for my own wardrobe and I realised that there were many women like myself who wanted something different from the mass-produced items in the high street stores. As a result Adornments was born. Is there a particular look that you wanted to achieve in your store? My customers tend to favour smart, casual clothing including items that function as daywear but can work with the right accessories for evenings and special occasions. Practicality is also a key feature of most of my stock. Therefore I have always been careful to consider the accessories I carry, ranging from handbags and scarves to jewellery and footwear. In this respect I was delighted to discover Cocorose which complements my clothing range beautifully and is admirably practical. What are your current favourite fashion items from your store? The daytime to evening dimension comes into play here too among which I would mention Masai clothing for its distinctiveness, its fabrics, and its practicality. Alongside this, NYDJ are my favourite trousers for their very flattering look and extremely comfortable fit for any shape and size. I favour classic handbags with a twist of some sort that makes them distinctive yet practical and I carry only footwear that is both stylish and comfortable, so clearly Cocorose features strongly here. What are your favourite Cocorose London ballet pumps? Janan of Cocorose London creates so many beautiful designs that it is difficult to name a favourite but, if pushed, I suppose that my own personal favourite would be the Buckingham style from the fold-up Classic Elegance range, also, particularly anything in nude as it goes with everything. However there are always designs and amazing colours to choose from that fit with most of the collections I have in the boutique. What do you feel makes Adornments special? Adornments has a unique understanding for its customers’ needs, and treats every individual customer as special. It provides this personal service for everyone who comes through its doors, whether the customer is a regular or a first time visitor. Personal recommendation is our best, indeed almost our only, form of advertising. What are the essentials every woman needs in their wardrobe this season? I would say they should have well-fitted trousers that would take them from day to evening and smart casual tops to interchange as the fashion experts recommend: for every good trouser there should be a variety of tops. I also firmly believe that layering is very important as it can be used to create different looks; for example a basic top dressed with a blouse or a tunic and finished with a cardigan, a jacket or just a wrap or poncho, depending on the occasion. For any ensemble Cocorose shoes are ideal not only because of the styles and colours available but also because of their comfort and practicality. A special Thank You to Ayla for taking the time to answer our questions, we love Adornments and think you will too! Details below.
