Cocorose London On Location in Thailand!

On January 29, 2012, in Cocorose London, Janan, by cocorose

This has been a long time coming but I’m still extremely excited to share with you some “behind-the-scenes” moments during our new AW12 collection photoshoot… on location in Thailand!

Having spent a good half of 2011 designing and working on the new AW12 collection, I couldn’t think of a more suitable place to capture the elegance, grace and glamour of the collection than the newly opened, extremely plush and exclusive 137 Pillars House in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Walking through the unassuming front entrance, I was quietly impressed, for I felt as if I had suddenly stepped into Narnia or Alice in Wonderland. The surroundings engulfed me and I stood, mesmerised, just taking in the marriage between old world elegance of the Orient and ultra modern luxuries.

I was there to meet Mr Zul, Director of Sales & Marketing, who was incredibly charming and indeed excited to have Cocorose London on board so early after opening.

Within a couple of days, Team Cocorose London were set. My crew and I arrived early in the morning to shoot in our  first location, which was in one of the beautiful guest suites, complete with own outdoor pool for a refreshing dip. Despite the gorgeous four poster bed and sparkling white chaise longue, when I saw the walk-in closet with back lit red walls, I knew this was the perfect background for Cocorose London’s classic styles – but with a cool and contemporary twist.

Kien, our photographer, also fell in love with the patterned floor of the suite so we took a few snaps here as well…

For lunch, we headed to The Gallery Bar & Restaurant, for a scrumptious bite to eat and to review the morning’s progress and prepare for the afternoon ahead. As I found myself relaxing by the riverside and watching the boats float past, I knew it was time to get up and go, and get cracking on the work ahead.

Arriving back at 137 Pillars House, we moved around the vast space seamlessly, snapping indoors and outdoors depending on the strength of the sunlight. Here are a few more pictures to show you the wonderful setting and to give you a sneak preview of Cocorose London’s fabulous new AW12 collection of foldable ballet pumps…

We hope you had a lovely Christmas and are looking forward to the New Year ahead!

Thank you to Chris Steele and Emsal Leo of Team Cocorose London, who took this amazing picture on their travels to Nowaza Onsen in Japan. Here’s just a little snapshot from their Blog and their amazing time spent there…

We left Tokyo early, to catch the Shinkansen to Nagano and then a local train to Togarinozawa Onsen in the Japanese Alps. In Togarinowaza Onsen there was a large temple near the bus station and the snowfall had been so deep that a group of men were employed just to clear the snow off the roof.

After lunch we caught the onward bus to the town of Nozawa Onsen, so called because it lies on the site of hot springs, like ‘Bath Spa’. The hot water is plentiful and steaming streams flow through the town, keeping the roads clear of snow even though the hills just above are covered in metres of the powdery stuff. There are around 10 public baths scattered about the town, all free for residents and tourists to use.

Our hotel was a ryokan, a Japanese style guest house. When we arrived there was a name tag greeting us on the shoe rack as once inside the building you switch your outdoor shoes for indoor slippers. Our bedroom was a traditional Japanese room, with a tatami floor and sliding screens in the windows. In the middle of the room was a low heater/table which we could sit around and warm our feet whilst having tea. Later in the evening, the staff moved the heater into a corner and rolled out the futons, which had been hidden in a cupboard, for us to sleep on. Our ryokan also had its own onsen downstairs, which was perfect after a day’s skiing.

Once settled, we ventured out for a walk around the town and to hire some ski clothes, boots and skis. The town is fairly small with low rise buildings, set in a valley at the foot of the ski slopes. These slopes were the site of the 1998 Winter Olympics.

It snowed overnight and the next day the skies were clear. We had a warm up on the lower slopes before getting the gondola up to the top. The higher slopes, on a clear day, gave wonderful views around the mountain range. We skied around for the whole day, stopping only for lunch at a café midway up the slopes.

Nozawa Onsen was a great resort and perfect for a mini break within our trip. The village was laid back and relaxing, the onsens dotted around gave it a nice feel and the snow was nice and powdery.

Japan was an incredible country to visit and the railpass was an excellent way of seeing it. Being so long and narrow, the country has a wide variety of landscapes and environments, covering areas from tropical islands to snowy mountains, one of the world’s largest cities to tiny communities in the wild north. I don’t think anywhere else in the world is the word juxtaposition so appropriate. Ancient shrines next to ultra-modern shopping malls, traditional bamboo and paper sliding doors opening electronically at the press of a button, bullet trains with conductors bowing on entering and exiting the carriage, the list goes on. And of course the food was excellent! We saw a lot of the country but there is still a lot more to see, hopefully one day we’ll be able to go back. (31.01.10-04.02.10)

Cocorosing It in China Part II

I couldn’t leave China this time without taking a few snaps of what has got to be one of the busiest stations in the world. Or at least that I’ve ever been to…

Guangzhou station is BUSY! I wish I was taller, so I could take a bird's eye view of the place to show you the hustling, bustling, pedestrianized area of Guangzhou train station...

Stallholder after stallholder selling scrumptious goodies to munch on...

Having been away for just over 1 month, it feels good to be returning to some form of “normality” and getting stuck back in at The Chocolate Factory.

On reflecting over the past month or so, I can safely say it’s been another fun adventure. China, Thailand and some bits in between.

I've visited all our factories and have worked closely with our teams for days (weeks!) to bring you the SS12 collection and what I am absolutely certain you'll love...

I’m cracking on with the new AW12 collection and preparing for all our shows, starting in January 2012. Think texture, texture, texture for AW12… some very exciting stuff coming your way soon!

I take inspiration from anything... and in this case, it was the seaweed in my soup, beautifully knotted and tied in a lovely bow!

And yes of course, I’ve dined on my favourite rice and noodles… the food in China is sooooo good.

One of my favourites...wonton noodles!

This black sesame bamboo charcoal cake looked rather daunting at first... but went down a treat!

Gareth and I have now swapped places so he’s busy Cocorosing It in China and will send an update soon! As for me… I’ve got a few months to go yet until my next trip back out there.

On the eve of 26th October 2011, the fash pack from the world of cosmetics, fashion houses, the press and VIPs gathered for a gala evening in the elegant setting of Magna Pars in Milan, Itlay, to support the charity Look Good…Feel Better. The charity dinner and auction was organised by UNIPRO in favour of “The Strengh and a Smile” –  LGFB Italy.

The Strengh and a Smile – LGFB Italy is the Italian version of the international project “Look Good…Feel Better”, founded in the USA in 1989. The charity has been active in Italy since 2006 under Unipro, the Italian Association of Cosmetic Companies. The aim of the charity is to promote free beauty workshops for women undergoing cancer treatments, to offer them ideas and practical advice and to help women combat the effects of therapies and regain a sense of well-being and self-esteem.

Rita and Michele from Team Cocorose Italia attended the gala evening and auction, which included fashion and design objects from top international brands. Cocorose London was proud to support by offering a pair of our glamorous Classic Leather Butterfly Bow folding shoes, complete with signature travel purse and collectable presentation box for the fashion auction.
